I am not interested in even driving anymore. We are just back from visiting my daughters in Beaconsfield and the driving down there was atrocious. Speed limits appear to be the minimum rather than maximum and we were honked at or flashed several times for doing 43/44 in a 50 zone. The worst though was tailgating. Drivers want to have a duel with car in front. I lost count of the number of times a ...

That was quite a good ending though Arie.

    He says, ---
-- "That "poor", disassembled RB Midget has helped nearly 20 Midget owners get their cars back on the road and running. The bodyshell went to eastern NC where it will get rebuilt using parts from a running but very rusty donor. There's no sad "off to the crusher for a penny a pound" story here."

Thing to consider as well ...

Only wondering, as the morbid thought that this kind of sad announcement might become more common. We ain't getting younger.

Definitely the weather's a factor Willy. But finally spring has arrived -- for the next few days at any rate. Lol. So yeah, I've got a few things to do on the Sprite. New hinge on quarterlight, new roof. Mine's a mk4 Sprite, with the fixed folding frame. I was going to modify a roof frame to make it fully removable like mk3's. Probably won't now. I must finally renovate my mk1 frontline suspension...

Sold my Midget years ago when motorsport got way too expensive. The final nail was when they banned open cars at my favourite hillclimb. No sense of adventure- sitting on their comfortable chairs in their toofy offices raking in our money. No fun in them at all.
I'm more than satisfied now to go for an early Sunday morning blast in the countryside in the elan and just chopping bits off my Y ty...

    Anam

I have no more details, unfortunately.

  • John Payne18 March 2024

Ive actually lost nearly all my classic car mojo in recent years. I sold the Mk1 Midget I spent 4 years of my life restoring after only using it for 2 years and my Sprite race car is for sale. Im almost at the point where for the first time in 25 years I wont have a classic car. Ive still got a few classic motorcycles though.

One reason is that I might not have that many years of driving ...

Well I charged the new battery and today with the slightly raised temperature and a spot of sun it cranked quite well and fired immediately.

I've booked into Slark's rolling road for next week so will report back.
Hope I haven't lost too many horses !!

Thanks for letting us know Dave, I didn't know him but read his technical discussions with interest although they often (usually) went over my head !

Will miss his input into the BBS which already seems to be going very quiet these days.

I figured once I got rid of my Capri (June last year) I could focus on my Sprite. Even perhaps buy another 60's 70's car to muck about with.

Not even a year on, and I've shelved getting another 'classic'.

That leaves me free to concentrate on my Sprite. Having done all the welding renovations/repairs, and with all the mechanical/eletrical stuff in good shape, it doesn't need much...
