    Hello Huib,
I've been enquiring about my welded chassis some years ago.
    https://mg-cars.org.uk/cgi-bin/or17?runprog=mgbbs&access=11128741603060&mode=archiveth&subject=8&subjectar=8&thread=2016040819302120799

I recently discovered some small wedges under the steering rack. Meaning that the castor angle is changed. Was it done intentionnaly ? Or was it to compensate a chassis fix th...

Not 100% sure but I think all this work has been done by various companies for racing MGB's with their conversion kits to telescopic shock abbsorbers. Some are available with adjustable arms to vary camber and caster.

A neighbour ditched his old drive up ramps as IIRC the new Morgan was very low and instead bought a hydraulic axle lift which you drive on then jack up the axle and lock at height. It lifts higher than the ramps would but I doubt he'll be using it much more due to age, maybe I should make a bid for it.

Probably not something you've done wrong per se Les. It could well just be the consequences of modifying the engine from standard spec's, and not yet found the best tuning/settings for it.

I don't relish crawling under mine either these days, and as you say the axle stands get in the way. I use drive up ramps when I need better access, they are definitely worth having. I've got an old se...

Yes Anam, all jobs are simple on such simple cars, but a lot of the repetition is because of my ineptitude! I should have dug an inspection pit when I had the garage built. It's crawling underneath which I don't relish these days, and the axle stands get in the way. Maybe I should get some ramps.

Now I have the timing about right, a plug test shows much weaker mixture, so I have reset tha...

I'm not sure that the car value makes a lot of difference either as they are in effect judging the value of other vehicles that you might hit!
I find that mileage makes a difference but goes in jumps so that 5k and 7k might be the same, but ask for 7200 and there is a big increase

When using comparison sites, I've found that adjusting the excess makes no difference to the quote, so I now always go for zero voluntary excess.

Also, adding a second driver - spouse/ partner - can reduce premiums, as well as having use of another car.

  • T Mason28 March 2024

Just to add I havent had a quote the right side of £300 even with excesses and excluding some of the add ons I currently have and on the comparison sites there are a lot at the cheaper end I've never even heard of.

  • T Mason28 March 2024

Bill, yes that's for an 03 1.4 Fiesta. Saga want £445 with 150 excess and no doubt that will increase once I check the add ons.

We have bank account packaged insurance and have claimed twice (once for Covid whilst away, once for cancellation due to dental issue). They paid out both times. But we are fortunate currently not to have any medical issues they charge extra for. That insurance is for world cover and includes wintersports, any car breakdown in the UK, including the Sprite, and mobile phone cover so quite...
