Thanks guys. Inner wishbone bushes are tight, nothing moving there. Antiroll bar mountings and links are all good. I'll have yet another look at the outer fulcrums.

  • David Billington29 April 2024

I was thinking the inner lower fulcrums can be a problem with the larger washers and the holes they fit in wearing, worth checking anyway.

    Les,

My Cousin years ago had similar on his MGB- I know the suspension is different but we only found the cause when I overhauled the Left front suspension for other reasons.
The bottom wishbone is made up of two pressed arms and the inner one had an elongated hole where the through bolt passed through holding the stub axle in position.
Only moved when going from ahead to reverse ...

    Anam
No further work needed as far as my friend knows. Just clean it up on a sunny day maybe.

    Richard
Blimey, just as well it wasn't a "smart" motorway. Even on a "proper" hard shoulder, it's a scary place to be.

My friend had a company Mondeo Diesel, he had a tinkling noise so he phoned the plant depot and was told to drive it at about 60 max (motorway) to the main Ford dealer in Cardiff - about 50miles away - he did query it but told Ill be fine.

Just prior to the new Severn bridge he noticed the car was smoking on 100 fags a day and he slowed then suddenly the car felt strange and pulled away -...

No problem with thread drift Willy.

    All interesting stuff!

  • Les Rose29 April 2024

I am at my wits' end again. For the last year or so the car has made an annoying noise. When I brake in reverse there is a clonk as the car comes to a stop. It also does it forwards but more quietly. After it happens, if I reverse and brake again it doesn't do it. It seems that something is shifting, and once shifted it stops until I brake going forwards, and then it shifts the other way.

    Hi Paul/Rocky.

Firstly my YB wheels have seen better days and I thought it would be a little more economical to buy a set already sorted with tyres. I didn't realise the later TD wheels were a match. Like you Rocky, I'm reluctant to add up the cost of my project spending as I know it's already north of 20k and I still have most of the bodywork and paint to do. I finally got my chassis bac...

    More drift - sorry Bill

    Running on diesels-

    I hope Grey's friend doesn't mind me copy/pasting this-

"Basically a diesel will happily burn anything organic that it can suck in.

That's why runaways happen when turbo oil pipes fracture.

    Or they used to.
    Sometimes.
    Very rarely.
    Very, very, very rarely.
    Really; don't worry.
    (hehehehe).

A good looker with 5 pubs and a new BMW--My friend thinks this boat will need a lot of work --lol

"dumb welder" - Your friend cuts himself very very short there Grey., I for one don't see him like that. More like well travelled/experienced I'd be saying.
I'd say you've explained the diesel bug quite well.
I've never come across it in a car or small truck, only bigger stuff wi...
